Holiday for Heroes event in Bellingham held surprises.

“There may be someone who needs this more than me”  These were the words from the man who hobbled up to the table, and shakily donated our first dollar of the day.  This was a disabled Veteran. One of many to come to our table on Sunday Oct. 19, and take the time to write a card to send to the deployed or to donate a dollar. One young man asked my daughter Sammi to write while he dictated since he found writing difficult. Eloquent and heartfelt..We were moved beyond measure.  By the end of the day we had donations totaling $100.00 and a mountain of cards! We gave out all of the angel ornaments we bought for the little Christmas tabletop tree, and a bucket of candy canes! Thank you to Shelley Travis(the CTL who organized this event) and her hubby, Kathy Bergman, Peggy, Stephanie, Sammi & Shauna for all coming out to help! Although Saturday seemed to bring out those who made their dismay at supporting the troops known loud and clear, Sunday brought many to the table who showed their support by writing cards and donating.   Thank you to Patti, the founder of Soldiers’ Angels and Angels on the SA forum, for your encouragement to make Sunday a better day..and so it was!
