This Holiday Season we are doing what we can to bring a little Holiday Cheer to the families currently staying at the Puget Sound Fisher House, and the Ft. Lewis Fisher house.  Angels in Washington/Oregon are helping to gather Stockings & Blankets to be delivered to the families closer to Christmas.

We will also be helping to decorate the Puget Sound FIsher House(Seattle) on November 29th 11 – 3pm.  If you are interested in joining the fun please email me (Julie) at  We need about 6 helpers and some goodies!  (This will also be the delivery day for many groups who have collected stockings)

Stay tuned for Holiday Volunteer Opportunities from Ft. Lewis & Puget Sound Fisher Houses!

A little info about Fisher Houses….

Supported by the Fisher House Foundation, Fisher Houses, like the one on the grounds of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle and on the army base at Ft. Lewis WA , have been built to meet the needs of veterans’ family members.  These “homes away from home” allow America ’s military families to be together during extended treatment for serious injury, disease or illness. Veterans and newly returning soldiers travel from throughout the Nation to receive their care at VA Puget Sound, and most come because of the specialized care and treatment offered for complex and traumatic combat injuries, spinal cord injuries, rehabilitation and comprehensive cancer care.  Without these remarkable homes, families would have to find hotel accommodations in the community at their own expense.  After an extended stay at a Fisher House, one mother wrote “I am convinced that our being near our son has given him the strength and courage to survive his extensive burns, and your generosity made it possible for us to be there.”  A Patient receiving care wrote “having my wife and daughter here is the best inspiration I could ever have.  Between them, the hospital staff, and everyone I’ve met here at Fisher House, I know I have lots of people in my corner.  My goal was to walk before my daughter learned to – and I did it.”)

“There may be someone who needs this more than me”  These were the words from the man who hobbled up to the table, and shakily donated our first dollar of the day.  This was a disabled Veteran. One of many to come to our table on Sunday Oct. 19, and take the time to write a card to send to the deployed or to donate a dollar. One young man asked my daughter Sammi to write while he dictated since he found writing difficult. Eloquent and heartfelt..We were moved beyond measure.  By the end of the day we had donations totaling $100.00 and a mountain of cards! We gave out all of the angel ornaments we bought for the little Christmas tabletop tree, and a bucket of candy canes! Thank you to Shelley Travis(the CTL who organized this event) and her hubby, Kathy Bergman, Peggy, Stephanie, Sammi & Shauna for all coming out to help! Although Saturday seemed to bring out those who made their dismay at supporting the troops known loud and clear, Sunday brought many to the table who showed their support by writing cards and donating.   Thank you to Patti, the founder of Soldiers’ Angels and Angels on the SA forum, for your encouragement to make Sunday a better day..and so it was!

In September 2008, Washington Soldiers’ Angels attended a VA Volunteer Orientation at the VA Puget Sound HCS.  An enjoyable opportunity to meet other angels in the state, and learn about being a Volunteer in the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. I highly recommend attending the next one in the new year if you missed this one!  Thanks to Director Jeff Honeycutt and Fran at the VA for extending the invitation!Soldiers' Angels VA Volunteer Orientation

Boat show tickets and an enjoyable day on the lake were provided to the Veterans, by Soldiers Angel David Kane! Thanks so much David. I’m not sure if participants were allowed a peek at the Maximus II as planned, but I know the day was enjoyed and appreciated by all!  What a huge morale lift!
