Prayers go to the Families of Stryker Fallen

The Fort Lewis PAO released additional information about 5-2 Stryker soldiers killed in Afghanistan.  Prayers go out to the family and friends of these brave soldiers, may they rest in peace. 

“FORT LEWIS, Wash. – The Department of Defense announced today the death of two Soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 1st Lt. David T. Wright, II, 26, of Moore, Okla., and Sgt. Andrew H. McConnell, 24, of Carlisle, Pa. died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device Sept. 14 in southern Afghanistan. The Soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash. The brigade deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July, 2009.

According to unit records, Wright enlisted in the U.S. Army Feb. 16, 2007. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant on Aug. 2, 2007. Wright completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Ga., and reported Fort Lewis, Wa., on Aug. 7, 2008, where he was assigned to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. This was his first deployment.

Wright’s civilian and military education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Oklahoma (2006), the Infantry Officer Basic Course (2008), Army Combatives Level I training (2008), Air Assault Qualification Course (2008), and Airborne Qualification Course (2008). His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Media, Airborne badge and Air Assault badge.

According to unit records, McConnell enlisted October 25, 2005.at Harrisburg, Pa., and reported to Fort Benning, Ga. for initial entry training. Upon graduation, he reported to Fort Bragg, North Carolina on March 13, 2006. He reported to Fort Lewis, Wash. on Jan. 31, 2007, where he was assigned to the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. This was his first deployment.

McConnell’s civilian and military education includes a High school diploma, 60+ hours college credit (2005), the Military Occupational Specialty 11B: Infantryman Qualification Course (2005), Airborne Qualification Course (2005), Warrior Leader Course (2006), and Combat Lifesaver Course (2007). His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal (four awards), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Air Assault Badge.”
